We are on the precipice of profound change in our nation’s health care delivery system: America is a nation of innovators and entrepreneurs that cares for our fellow citizens, yet we have failed to create a health care system that fully meets the needs of patients in this country. Health care is fragmented and the quality of care varies widely which leads to unsustainable health care spending.
Much work needs to be done to address the dynamics and incentives of the private market forces and the parameters of the public/private partnership, which drives much of health care in the United States. To achieve this, we must learn from each other and collaborate with one another to address the fragmentation of care, address variable quality of care and create a sustainable health care financial model.
In the Future of Health Care blog, we will share Mayo’s perspective on the most important issues facing health care and we will put the spotlight on examples of change from which we can all learn. We will share examples from Mayo Clinic, but will not be limited to the work of our organization. We will build the Future of Health Care blog into a go-to forum for thought leaders and policy makers to address today’s most important health care issues.
If you see something that catches your eye, we encourage you to share it. If there’s something that you feel merits comment, we encourage you to share your thoughts and social media gives us a great opportunity to do so. We will be using this blog, Twitter and Facebook to keep the discussion current and allow for all our stakeholders to participate in the future of health care. Please remember to use the hashtag #FutureofHealthCare when sharing content on social media to track what you and others are saying about the future of America’s health care system. We look forward to creating the future of health care, together.
